Redmine

article published on: Sat 05 Dec 2009

Redmine is a flexible project/issue management software written in Ruby.

Redmine is based upon the Ruby on Rails webframework and so it is a
cross platform and cross databse application that can be used with a
webbrowser. It's compareable with Trac but comes with a better SCM integration. It's compatible with Git, Subversion, Mercurial, Bazaar, SVN, CVS and Darcs without the need of any plugin; by the way, Redmine supports plugins. There are several existing plugins with more or less interesting features, depends on your needs.

Redmine can handle multiple projects within one instance. It supports project scheduling with the help of Gantt-charts and milestone definitions as other project management systems do. In addition Redmine can also be used as a time tracking system, so customer billing becomes easy. Also there is a built in wiki for each project, which is perfect for project-documentation.

The installation is quite easy (as with most Ruby on Rails applications) and it is really easy to contribute to Redmine or report any feature request or bugs as the Readmine-team uses Redmine itself as issue system.
Redmine is really worth to take a look at it when you are looking for a cool and modern project-/issue-management system.
